NHRT - Menopause Treatments In The Breast Cancer Survivor or High Risk Patients

We often get ask to treat patients whom have either a very strong family history and are worried about the risk of breast cancer or the patient whom has a history of estrogen positive receptor breast cancer but whom symptoms of menopause are unbearable. In these patient conventional physicians in the know, use the drug venlafaxine (Effexor) this is a class of SSRI used for depression. In small doses 36.5 to 75mg it has been demonstrated to reduce hot flashes by up to 60%. In addition to this an anti hypertensive medication called Clonidine (Catapress) delivered via transdermal patch also has been shown to help reduce symptoms. Nutrition wise the following non-phytoestrogen supplements have been helpful Vitamin E at a dosage of 800u, Gamma-oryzanol 300mg/day and Mega-folic acid therapy which is not a common treatment useful in dosages of 10mg or more which reduces many of the menopause symptoms. Also very effective is the use of natural progesterone gel, which has no effect on estrogen receptor positive breast cancer will greatly improve various menopausal symptoms. In addition we recommend to all our breast cancer patients go on Co Q 10, Melatonin and Conjugated Linoloic acid (CLA), Tocotrienols and Indole-3-Carbinol (I-3-C) due to various studies, which have shown improved outcomes.
